 INTRODUCTION / MOTIVATION: The knowledge gap between engineers, designers and management is widening and becoming an obstacle for successful project completion. Artificial Intelligence and Robotics are viewed to be too complicated for non-technical people. In this workshop, we will prove that everyone can work with Robotics and Artificial intelligence and gain a hands-on knowledge of these important topics. PROCESS / METHODS: Through a general introduction to topics (as a refresher for some experienced, and intro for those with less experience), plus game theory analysis and a series of computer games, the participants learn the essential concepts, terms and algorithms in a playful guidance. After this first hands-on contact with the technology, we train a simple two wheeled robot in a virtual 3D environment using methods from reinforcement learning. We then build the robot from standard electronic components and transfer the trained neural network to the micro-controller of the robot. We analyze the behavior of the robot and learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the methods used. In the process we even learn something about ourselves: why teenagers often don’t do what they are told? Why do we sometimes have to do the wrong thing to be successful in the long run? We teach technological foundations. OUTCOMES: After completing the workshop, participants are able to understand and assess publications relevant for business and technical applications. We go hands-on with direct contact with the technology because we believe that we learn only by experiencing the technology interactively („by doing“). Thus we replace discussing complex mathematical formulas with playful interactions. By doing that, we can focus on gaining a solid intuition for mathematical and technical concepts. Reflection together at the end allows us to synthesize our learnings, making meaningful takeaways—including a tangible AI-powered robot!
